USN Retired Chief Petty Officer Joseph G. Carmona, 55, of Flour Bluff, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013. Mr. Carmona was born Sept. 22, 1957, in Sommerset, Burmuda, to Lucia (Garces) and Salvador Carmona Sr. He married Graciela Rivera in Corpus Christi and served in the US Navy. He was a CCAD budget analyst and a member of St. Paul the Apostle in Flour Bluff. He was also a 4th degree member of the St. Paul the Apostle Knights of Columbus, a member of the Knights on Bikes Flour Bluff Chapter and volunteered for the Flour Bluff Little League baseball and football organizations. He was a lector, eucharistic minister and a Cursillista. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucia and Salvador Carmona Sr. Survivors include his wife, Graciela "Gracie" Carmona of Flour Bluff; two sons, Joseph G. Carmona Jr. and Jaime Carmona, both of Harlingen; two daughters, Cecilia Carmona of Harlingen and Duvelza Cervantes of Flour Bluff; three grandchildren, Joseph Arrisola, Ciara Cervantes and Alyssa Carmona; two brothers, Sam Carmona and Sal (Mary) Carmona Jr., both of Harlingen; and two sisters, Mary Diane (Antonio) Juarez and Debi (Ramiro) Flores, both of Harlingen. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 o'clock that evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Oakville Cemetery with full military honors.
