Raul "Whitey" Cortez slideshow Raul "Whitey" Cortez, 52, of Beeville, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Mr. Cortez was born April 17, 1960, in Oakville to Maria Carbajal and Frank Cortez. His profession was in construction, and he was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Cortez Jr. Survivors include his parents, Frank and Maria Cortez of Beeville; three children, Gabriel Raul Cortez, Romuldo Cortez and Veronica Cortez Cano, all of Beeville; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Eddie (Delia) Cortez of Beeville; nine sisters, Hilda (Floyd) Weaver of Michigan, Elda Anita (Oliver) Esparza, Velma (Ruben) Posada, Olga (Cecil) Diaz, Sylvia (Johnny) Silvas, Connie (Joe) Garza and Mary (Carlos Perez) Cortez, all Beeville, Belia (Juan) Rodriguez of North Carolina and Rachel (Joe) Gutierrez of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday, July 13, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Rev. Lukose Thirunelliparambil officiating. Burial followed in Oakville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Chapa, Joe Edward Cortez, Amador Arredondo III, Johnny Silvas Jr., Jeremy Posada, Gabriel Cortez and Romuldo Cortez. Honorary pallbearer was Veronica Cortez Cano.
