Pedro G. "Pete" Cantu, 73, died Sept. 1, 2011. Mr. Cantu was born April 3, 1938, in San Antonio to Wenceslado and Mary Guajardo Cantu. He married Lonnie Garcia on Oct. 30, 1998, in Beeville. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and worked for Bee Community Action Agency. He enjoyed bowling, reading and sports and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He played the guitar and bass and was a member of Red Rockers and Crystals bands in the 60's and Trio in the 90's. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles W. Cantu; two brothers, Sisto Cantu and Danny Cantu; and two sisters, Lupita Patterson and Olga Gutierrez. Survivors include his wife, Lonnie Cantu of Beeville; a son, Christopher L. (Hazel) Cantu of Houston; a daughter, Cindy A. Cantu of Houston; two step-sons, Ernest (Pinky) Garza and Edward Lee Sr. (Anna) Garza, both of Beeville; two brothers, Terry (Lupita) Lopez of Corpus Christi and David (Betty) Cantu of Beeville; two sisters, Mary Ann Rollings of Bolton, Mass. and Gloria (Matthew) Alvarez of Victoria; eight grandchildren, Gabriel Cantu, Anthony Cantu, Olivia Garza, Malarie Melchor, Edward Lee Garza Jr., Megan Garza, Brooke Garza and Victoria Gonzales; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2. Pallbearers will be Matthew Alvarez III, John Michael Cantu, Bobby Jones, J. R. Lal, Pete A. Cantu and Luis Melchor.
