Juan R. Juarez, 91, of Mathis, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. Mr. Juarez was born Sept. 1, 1920, in San Antonio to Leonor (Reyes) and Manuel Juarez Sr. He married Jovita Castaneda in Edinburg on Aug. 21, 1960, and was a laborer and ranch hand. He was a member of Templo Gethsemani Church in Mathis and was a deacon and a trustee of the church and president of the men's ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jovita Juarez of Mathis; children, Norma (Antonio) Monsibaiz of Mathis, Benjamin (Rosalinda) Juarez of Mathis, Martha (Domingo) Liserio of Fort Worth, Yolanda (Jose Segura) Lobdell of Mathis and Estevan Juarez of Austin; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joel Juarez of Moses Lake, Wash., Vicente Juarez of Royal City, Wash., and Saul Juarez of Kenedy; a sister, Guadalupe Alcorta of Skidmore; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Angelus Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 6 o'clock. The funeral service will be conducted at Templo Gethsemani Saturday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. with Hilario Villarreal officiating. Burial will follow in Cenizo Hill in Mathis.
