Joe Cantu

Joe Cantu, 64, of Beeville, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Mr. Cantu was born Oct. 30, 1948, in Normanna to Rafael and Adela Perez Cantu. He married Adela "Lela" Silvas in Beeville on Aug. 27, 1970, and was a cable tech supervisor for Western Geophysical and Global Geo. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gambling. He was preceded in death by his father, Rafael Cantu; three brothers, Americo Cantu, Adolfo Cantu and John Cantu; and a sister, Tammy Perez. Survivors include his wife, Lela Cantu of Beeville; his mother, Adela P. Cantu of Beeville; two brothers, Jesse Cantu of Beeville and Fred Cantu of San Antonio; four sisters, Hazel (George) Bernal and Nancy (Sid) Garcia, both of Beeville, Elsie Boren of Portland and Martha (Bland) Chamberlain of Corpus Christi; a brother-in-law, Ruben (Melissa) Silvas of Beeville and several nieces, nephews and other family members. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, from noon to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited there that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Pallbearers are George Cano, Balde Gonzales, Rocky Mann, Margarito Garza, Justin Govella, Albert Timoteo Lopez and Bobby Pe�a Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Bernal, Nicholas Silvas, John Suniga and Glenn Boren.
