Janie (Govella) Valdez, 83, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Janie was born on March 31, 1940, in Normanna, Texas to Sebastian Zapata and Francisca Garcia. She married Ernest Govella in April 1970 in Beeville and later in life re-married Juan Valdez in April 1991 in Aransas Pass. Janie resided in Rockport where she worked as a homecare provider and was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Francisca Zapata; her husbands, Ernesto Govella and Juan Valdez; four sisters, Angelina Zapata, Nieves Sanchez, Doratea Armijo, and Felicita Zapata; a brother, Ramon Zapata; and a great-grandson, Remington Kline.
Left behind to cherish fond memories include a son, Felipe (Christine) Govella; two daughters, Francisca (Jose) Ganceres and Guadalupe (Joel) Hernandez; nine grandchildren, Analysa (Cody) Govella, Alicia (Xavier) Gloria, Nathan Govella, Chelsea Govella, Sebastian Govella, Jonathan Ganceres, Jacob Ganceres, Leana Esquivel and Senaida Hernandez; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Dasher, Xavier Gloria Jr. and Maze Gloria.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 8, at Angelus Funeral Home with Father Pete Elizardo officiating.
Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers Matthew Rosales, Jose Ganceres, Felipe Govella, Joel Hernandez, Cody Dasher and Jesse Gonzales.
