Carmen Benavides Carabajal, 92, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, June 22, 2018, in Beeville, Texas surrounded by her family.
Visitation was held Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary was recited Monday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in the Berclair Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gerald Carabajal, David Carabajal, Ysidro Carabajal III, Alexander Carabajal, Louis Shaver, and Pete Cuellar. Honorary pallbearers were Christian Cuellar, Vaughn Carabajal, Teodosio Gutierrez, Nickolas Silverleaf and J.C. Gonzales.
Mrs. Carabajal was born in Berclair, Texas on October 31, 1925, to Albaro Chapa Benavides and San Juana Garcia Benavides. She married Ysidro Moya Carabajal on Jan. 19, 1942, in Berclair. She resided in Beeville and was a retired Beeville Independent School District central cafeteria employee. She was Catholic and attended service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter Carmelita Carabajal, son Ysidro Carabajal, Jr., two brothers Luis Benavides and Benito Benavides, and one sister Lilly Arredondo.
Survivors include: five daughters, Anita B. Sellers and husband Terry (deceased) of Berclair, Rachel Gutierrez and husband Teodosio of Sugar Land, Santos Shaver and husband Joe of Beeville, Estela Silverleaf of Beeville, and Priscilla Torres of San Marcos; three sons, Gerald Carabajal and wife Michelle of Dickinson, Ysidro Carabajal III of San Antonio, and David Carabajal and wife Bettina of Beeville; one sister, Ofelia De La Garza; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Angelus Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
