Arturo G. Lara, 72, of Skidmore, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
Mr. Lara was born Jan. 29, 1946, in Skidmore to Victor and Herminia (Garcia) Lara. He retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving for 24 years, and then went on to retire from the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Marcus (Misty) Lara of Houston and Victor (Jennifer) Lara of Skidmore, and their mother, Mary Esther Lara; seven siblings, Joe (Dora) Lara of Oklahoma, Yolanda Atkinson of Sinton, Gloria (Luis) Castaneda and Hector Lara, both of Skidmore, Raul (Anna) Lara of Kentucky, and Viola (Eddie) Salinas and Frankie (Henry) Tamez, both of Houston; and four grandchildren, Alexandria, Maya, Mason and Drake Lara.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. A rosary will be recited there that evening at 7 o'clock.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore with Rev. Thomas Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Lara, Victor Lara, Joe Lara, Raul Lara, Hector Lara and Joseph Lara.
A reception will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
