Abelardo M. Garcia, 89, of Beeville, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Mr. Garcia was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Clareville to Antonia (Medina) and Augustin Garcia Sr. He served in the U.S. Army and married Sulema Armijo on April 28, 1946, in Beeville. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was the first Hispanic mailman in Beeville. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert A. Garcia; brothers, Augustin Garcia Jr., Amador Garcia, Aldaberto Garcia and Adan Garcia; and a sister, Adelaida Garcia. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sulema Garcia of Beeville; a daughter, Alma (Oscar) Lopez of Beeville; two grandchildren, Sandra Vasquez and Robert Anthony Lopez, both of Beeville; two great-granddaughters; three sisters, Angelica Carrizales of Beeville, Amelia Gutierrez of Lubbock and Alicia (Augustine) Rey of Plainview; two brothers, Armando (Lorraine) Garcia of California and Abel (Ramona) Garcia of Beeville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited there this evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Lopez, Robert Vasquez, Carlos Carrizales Jr., Joe Carrizales, Albert Garcia and John Salinas. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Herrmann, Brad Finch and Robert Doubrava.
